The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI Is being launched in two parts, with the first Tax release planned for February 23, 2026, and the second Benefits release coming summer 2026.
In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we’re providing a reminder about the Downtime Period.
Downtime Period Reminder
What is the Downtime Period?
The Downtime Period is a scheduled time during which MiWAM will be temporarily unavailable to all users to accommodate the transition to MiUI. During this time all UIA online services, offices, and phone lines will be unavailable while the system update is made. All users are strongly encouraged to complete any required activities prior to the start of the Downtime Period as MiWAM will be unavailable.
When is the Downtime Period?
The Downtime Period will start at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, and extend through Sunday, Feb. 22. MiUI and MiWAM will be available on Monday morning, Feb. 23. Note that MiUI will be used for tax functions while MiWAM will only be available for benefits functions.
How will the Downtime Period Affect Me?
Employers and TPAs are encouraged to complete any tasks in MiWAM by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, prior to the start of the Downtime Period. The Office of the Employer Ombudsman phone lines, submitting wage reports or payments in MiWAM, accessing employer account info, communicating with UIA via MiWAM, and more, will be unavailable.
